Undergraduate research

Delve deeper into your area of study, sooner

Want to explore how Japanese fairy tales reflect the morals and beliefs of the culture? Planning to develop an app that helps local nonprofits with fundraising efforts? Curious about drugs that could help treat cancer? At St. Norbert College, you’ll find opportunities for undergraduate research woven through every discipline.

SNC’s undergraduate research projects help you apply theories that you’ve learned in the classroom to real-world problems, contributing to research in your area of study.

Why should you care about doing research as an undergraduate when most students don’t start until grad school? Real-life research will deepen your understanding of your college studies – and your future employers (and graduate school admission committees) will be impressed by your early research credentials!

Through the Mulva Library and our Center for Undergraduate Research, we provide support for all of your research interests.

  • When I work in the lab I get a little awe-struck just thinking that I have the privilege of being one of the first people to handle this specimen in around 90 million years.

Collaborative research

At many institutions across the U.S., only graduate students or upperclassmen are eligible for, and actively involved in, collaborative faculty research projects. That’s not the case at SNC! Here, we believe you should have the option to pursue research at any stage in your undergraduate studies — even as a first-year student. SNC’s small class sizes make it easier for you to get to know your professors and get involved in research.

Independent research

At SNC, you’ll have the opportunity to explore your own interests through student-initiated research. You’ll define the scope of your research, work with the support of a faculty member to research and draw conclusions, and formally present findings at the annual research forum. This research furthers your abilities in critical thinking, problem solving, communication and collaboration, while fostering an essential sense of independence.
