Religious and spiritual life

Reflect, nourish and grow in your faith

St. Norbert College, the only Norbertine college in the world, was founded on the principle of supporting the personal, spiritual and intellectual development of each student. Because we are a Catholic institution, we welcome students of all religious traditions as well as those with none, offering rich and rewarding opportunities for spiritual growth to everyone on campus.

It’s our hope that while you’re here, you’ll develop your spiritual life through worship, reflection and service, and then share your gifts with the world.

The Catholic heart of our campus

Old St. Joseph Church – affectionately known as Old St. Joe’s – is home to the St. Norbert College Parish and is the heart of our campus. The parish offers opportunities to:

  • Attend daily or weekly mass
  • Participate in liturgical or music ministry
  • Engage in outreach ministries designed to show compassion, care and support
  • Grow your faith with others through Bible Study or the men’s and women’s groups, Frassati and Chiara
  • Be involved in Out|Loud@SNCParish to celebrate diversity within the church and welcome individuals equally on their faith journeys

Explore spiritual life and vocation

The Emmaus Center for Spiritual Life & Vocation offers students of all faith traditions a variety of ways to deepen their faith, explore spiritual questions and illuminate their calling.

  • Explore ways to meaningfully connect your strengths, values and passions with the needs of the world through vocational exploration programs like Navigate.
  • Attend morning prayer, an ecumenical worship service, on Mondays and Fridays.
  • Enjoy themed retreats, including Prayer on the Prairie (eco-spirituality), "FYRE" (First-Year Retreat Experience), A Day of Quiet, and Caritas (Catholic Social Teaching and spirituality).
  • Attend Thin Place, a regular Protestant worship gathering and dinner for students from all backgrounds.
  • Engage in opportunities for contemplation, including walking meditation and Bible study.
First-year students can also apply to be part of the ALIVE peer ministers program to facilitate the spiritual development of their peers in the residence halls.

Sacred spaces on campus

Looking for somewhere quiet for prayer and reflection? Recharge your spirit outdoors at the Shakespeare Garden, prayer labyrinth at Donald J. Schneider Stadium or Calawerts Family Grotto of Our Lady. Visit the National Shrine of St. Joseph, located in Old St. Joe’s. Many residence halls and buildings on campus have chapels or quiet reflection spaces, too.
