Pre-medical

Aspiring physicians: Get your start at SNC

Every medical school applicant writes a personal statement that describes what drew them to the profession — in other words, why they want to be a doctor. Maybe you’ve dreamed about being a doctor since you were in kindergarten. Perhaps, you want to help improve care for populations who tend to be overlooked. Whatever your reason, you undoubtedly have something in common with pre-medical students at St. Norbert College: a desire to help people.

Here at SNC, we spend four years helping our pre-medical students get ready to become doctors. Our strong liberal-arts curriculum will sharpen your communication and critical thinking skills, and our rigorous science courses will give you the hands-on coursework needed to succeed in medical school.

Academic paths within the program

SNC pairs you with a pre-medical advisor, who guides you through your undergraduate studies. Your pre-medical advisor will ensure that you’re taking the necessary prerequisite courses for medical school, and help identify extracurricular activities that could help your application stand out. Because of the strong science background required for medical school, we recommend majoring in biology, chemistry, psychology or natural sciences.

If you plan to start medical school immediately after the completion of your bachelor’s degree at SNC, you'll take the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) in May of your junior year. Our tailored pre-med program sets you up for success on this important exam that confirms your aptitude for a career in medicine.

Elevate your pre-med education

SNC is one of the few private liberal arts colleges in the nation to maintain an anatomy lab. Although most cadaver labs are off-limits to undergraduates, at SNC you will have access, giving you valuable experience other medical school applicants won’t have. What’s more, SNC’s small class sizes often result in meaningful faculty mentorship.

SNC offers about a hundred clubs and service organizations, so you’ll be able to find a group where you can shine as a leader. This is an environment where you can grow into a confident and competent medical-school applicant.

  • SNC hosts lots of informational talks, panels and speakers that opened my eyes and gave me more information about what I’d be experiencing in different medical professions and schools. Highlighting guests in a variety of professions is especially beneficial for students who are still deciding, or don’t know much about the different areas of health care.

  • I always wanted to pursue medicine, and everything fell into place when I started classes. I gained a lot out of the smaller classes and the faculty went into great detail to give students information on their personal interests. At St. Norbert, everyone is dedicated to developing students and making them better people in every way when they leave the college.
