Frequently Asked Questions by Parents and Families

Prospective Parents

My student wants to see St. Norbert College. How do I set up a visit?
Scheduling a visit is easily accomplished online.

Standard visits include a tour of campus (either a general tour of campus or a tour of housing options) and a meeting with an admission counselor. Visits can be personalized to include attending a class in a student’s desired major, meeting with a faculty member, coach or representative from a campus department (e.g., campus ministry, service, study abroad), depending on availability. Please allow 2-3 weeks for a personalized visit to be scheduled.

St. Norbert College also offers a number of admission events and programs throughout the year.

When will my student be notified on an admission decision?
It typically takes 2-4 weeks to notify a student by mail of his or her admission to St. Norbert College, once all the required admission materials have been received.

Does my student need to submit a letter of recommendation?
Possibly. While we welcome letters of recommendation for all applicants, we typically encourage a letter of recommendation and/or other supporting materials (e.g., a personal statement, résumé) if a student is concerned about his or her academic record or test scores. Letters of recommendation can provide context for a student’s academic history as well as speak to a student’s other strengths in leadership, character and involvement. As we evaluate students holistically, we appreciate information aside from test scores and grades to evaluate a student’s likelihood for success at St. Norbert College.

What scholarships are available?
St. Norbert College typically offers academic merit scholarships to students upon their admission to the college. Academic scholarships range in value and are valid each year, for four years, provided a student maintains the required grade-point average.

St. Norbert College also has a variety of specialty scholarships that prospective students can apply for in their senior year in high school. These scholarships have applications, deadlines and specific criteria for consideration. Students must be admitted to SNC to be eligible to apply for these scholarships. We also encourage students to apply for outside scholarships.

Can my student afford to attend St. Norbert College?
St. Norbert College strives to make affordability a top priority. Through a combination of merit scholarships and need-based aid, it is our goal to help families bridge the cost of college. We encourage families to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by Dec. 1 of each year to ensure consideration for the most available aid. Through financial assistance and four-year graduation guarantee, St. Norbert College is a great value. For detailed estimates, use our Net Price Calculator and/or our Scholarship Calculator.

When will my student receive a financial aid award?
Prospective students typically receive their financial aid awards early to mid-December of their senior year of high school if they submit their FAFSA to the office of financial aid by our priority date (Oct. 1). Students will receive an email notification that their award is available to view online in our student portal (KnightLine) and will be mailed a copy of their award as well.

My student has decided to attend St. Norbert College. Now what?
Once your student has decided to attend St. Norbert College, the student must submit a non refundable enrollment deposit of $350 to hold his or her spot for the upcoming year. The deposit can be paid by check or by a credit card online

Once the enrollment deposit has been processed, the student will receive a checklist of “next steps,” including activating his or her network accounts, completing an application for campus housing, registering for summer orientation and more.

Can my student have a car on campus?
Yes. Incoming first-year students can complete an online application for a parking permit in early August. Parking permits are $150 for the year and vehicles must be registered annually.

If my student chooses not to bring a car to campus, how can they get around?
Monthly all-you-can-ride passes are available for St. Norbert College students from Green Bay Metro.

How are AP, IB or dual-enrollment courses accepted?
St. Norbert College accepts AP, IB and dual-enrollment credit. For Advanced Placement (AP) credit, students must earn a three or better on the corresponding AP examination. For International Baccalaureate credit, students must earn a four or better on IB examinations for High Level (HL) courses. For dual-enrollment credit, students must earn a C or better in the course.

Official score reports must be ordered from College Board (AP) or IB Org (IB) and be sent directly to St. Norbert College. For dual-enrollment coursework, an official transcript should/can be sent from the institution through which the coursework was earned.

My student has not yet decided on their major or minor program. Is that a problem?
No. In fact, “undeclared” is the most popular major for first-year students. Because of our liberal arts curriculum, still deciding students have the benefit of “testing the waters” when it comes to their first few semesters at St. Norbert College. We encourage still deciding students to take a class in one to two majors they are considering during their first semester that could also satisfy a core-curricular requirement.

Further, our integrative studies major allows students to design their own college education by formulating a program of study suited to their own personal interests.

Our office of career and professional development is a great resource on campus that has services specifically intended to assist deciding students.

Is St. Norbert College a safe environment?
Yes. Our professional Campus Safety staff team monitors campus 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They work in partnership with the De Pere police and fire departments. From providing students transportation across campus, to investigating incidents, to assisting students having car trouble, Campus Safety makes a safe campus its top priority.

Aside from a physical campus safety presence, St. Norbert College employs several other security measures. Most academic buildings and all residence halls are fitted with card-access technology, keeping buildings secure and limited to the campus community. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to download the free Alertus mobile app. Emergency procedures are posted in all academic buildings and emergency response plans have been implemented by every campus division. Emergency notification includes text alerts, computer display alerts and campus phone alerts to ensure all members of the campus community stay abreast of any kind of potential or real emergency.

I want to ensure my student will find a job after graduation. How does St. Norbert College help?
The office of career and professional development (CAPD) offers career-related services to SNC students – for life! From assisting students with major and career exploration to cultivating job-search skills (e.g., mock interviewing, résumé building), the staff are dedicated to ensuring St. Norbert College students have the skills and confidence to hit the job market.

CAPD works with students one-on-one, in small groups and through large events to expose students to opportunities. They host on-campus recruiting events throughout the year, bringing employers face-to-face with students for internship and job hiring. They interface with SNC alums around the country through their Hire A Knight program, connecting students with passionate alumni.

The majority of SNC students have at least one internship by the time they graduate. That, coupled with other experiential learning at SNC – study abroad, service-learning, collaborative research – and leadership cultivated through student involvement, our students have robust résumés that impress employers. Approximately 96 percent of SNC graduates are employed or in graduate/professional programs within nine months of graduating!

Can my student commute to campus?
Possibly. Students who reside 35 miles from campus may be eligible to commute to SNC. Students should indicate on their application whether they intend to live on campus or live at home with their parents or primary guardians. They must also complete an annual online application and must sign a notarized confirmation affidavit that they are living with parents or legal guardians.
