Green Knights Grind Past Beloit

BELOIT - St. Norbert College closed out the regular season with its fourth consecutive win, posting a 62-50 Midwest Conference win over Beloit College at Flood Arena.

The Green Knights (19-6, 14-4 MWC) will face Ripon College at 5 p.m. Friday at Glennie Gym in Monmouth, Ill., in the semifinals of the Midwest Conference Tournament. Monmouth College and Lake Forest College will meet in the other semifinal.

St. Norbert took control in the first half, taking a 19-13 lead with 7:47 remaining out to a 25-13 edge with 3:47 to go. Taylor Penn had a pair of baskets and Mitchell Reinthaler too free throws to account for the 6-0 run. The Green Knights settled on a 32-25 halftime lead.

The Buccaneers hung around in the second half, trailing just 44-39 with 8:42 to play. A Reinthaler hoop and a 3-pointer by Penn put St. Norbert up 49-39 with 7:00 left, and Beloit would get no closer than six the rest of the way.

St. Norbert shot 50 percent from the field, going 23-for-46. Penn led the Green Knights with 17 points, while Joe Ciriacks added 13 points and Reinthaler 12 points and nine rebounds.

Beloit shot 32.1 percent (17-for-53) from the floor. Tristan Shoup led the Buccaneers with 15 points and eight rebounds.
